Fringe Friends Review: Lunch at The Chilli Pickle

The Chilli Pickle’s décor is vibrant and colourful.  It was invitingly bright as we arrived for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon.  Happily buzzing with a background soundtrack of traditional Indian music which was unobtrusive but added a nice layer to the atmosphere.

We started with the obligatory poppadoms that were served with some refreshingly tangy and sweet chutneys, the lemon one was a firm favourite.  I chose a Mango Lassi that was thirst-quenching and sweet.  We also shared a Pani Puri, a favourite Indian street snack of crisp bite-sized puri shells filled with a chickpea salad and sweet and sour toppings on the side.

For our main course we both opted for the upgraded King Thali which was a great decision! I had the Mutton Madras and my friend, the Punjab Aubergine Curry.  They arrived looking so inviting with an array of colourful chutneys and side dishes ranging from sharp and savoury to smooth and sweet; each complementing each mouthful beautifully.

Although my friend and I each had hearty appetites we decided to leave some room for dessert and asked if we could take the remainder of our lunch home.  They were more than happy to oblige and even added in some extra snacks for us to enjoy!  It’s those extra touches that make Chilli Pickle stand out from the crowd.

For dessert we chose the homemade Indian sweets and truffles which rounded things off nicely.

The service was outstanding and just on the right side of attentive, just one of the many reasons Chilli Pickle is a firm favourite in Brighton & Hove. They deliver to Hove now too!
