Son-of-a-Drag-Queen’s Winning Streak

“I can’t believe it, but I only went and won another bloody award!” – Alfie Ordinary,  2016 award-winner of the Brighton Fringe International Touring Bursary in Association with the Pebble Trust.

San Diego International Fringe Festival has named Alfie Ordinary as ‘Outstanding Artist in a Comedy’ for his show ‘Help! I Think I Might Be Fabulous.’ On his last night in San Diego the award-winner said, “I’m overwhelmed with emotions and have so many people to thank. I’m so grateful to have been welcomed so kindly into a beautiful community of supportive artists. To everyone I met that made this mad journey so special, to the team at San Diego Fringe, I want you to know you will always have a special place in my heart and you are all fabulous!”

Alfie won the 2016 Brighton Fringe International Touring Bursary in Association with the Pebble Trust and has since toured Amsterdam Fringe, Hollywood Fringe and now San Diego Fringe.  He was also nominated for the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2017 Best International Show award. About the nomination Alfie said “I have to admit, it was a really big and scary thing to fly across the world on my own, not knowing if anyone would like, understand or even come and see my show, but I did it, because sometimes you have to do things that scare you.”

In ‘Help! I Think I Might Be Fabulous’ Alfie challenges the norm and questions what it really means to be a man in a hilarious and heart-warming tale that explores pride, shame and masculinity. In a society where boys are told to wear trousers and girls are told to wear skirts, Alfie teaches the audience how to come to terms with being Fabulous.
The show sees Alfie, the son-of-a-drag queen, discussing his time at Madame LeCoq’s Preparatory School For Fabulous Boys, specifically his friendship with Jon. Alfie helps Jon through song and puppetry, encouraging Jon to be himself with the help of Whitney Houston and Bette Middler.
